California Court Reporters Need Your Help!
Looks like Arnold is up to his usual tricks with regards to ousting official court reporters. Why the fixation with this issue? Oh, yeah, he's not an attorney and clearly has no idea about the value of what this profession brings to the table.
He wants to get rid of our board. However, the fact is that our CSR board is completely self-funded. Our license fees cover our costs. What a concept -- we don't spend more money than we take in. So, yeah, let's punish the board for being one of the only government entities that operates in a fiscally prudent way. Good idea -- NOT!
He wants to replace officials with digital recorders. Need I refer everyone to a plethora of research that clearly shows that replacing court reporters with machines is not only less cost effective, but more burdensome to the court system? That sort of mindset goes right along with the myth that technology makes life simpler and more efficient. What a joke. Please let me know if your life is more simple because of email, IM, Facebook, Twitter, AOL, match.com, Blackberry, iPhones -- take a breath -- VCRs, DVD players, Blu-ray players, iPods -- take another breath -- programming microwave oven clocks, sprinkler timers, and multi-remote controls for all the components listed above -- all at the same time. If you thought by the year 2009 that we'd all be flying around in space capsules like the Jetsons, I'm sorry to say that techno-utopia was a hoax. Just like the possibility of saving money by replacing court reporters with ER is a hoax. Hey, Mr. Schwarzenegger, how about we replace out-of-touch and fiscally ignorant govenors with Digital Governor Robots! Good idea -- NOT!
California Court Reporters Need Your Help! And in a big way! COCRA sent an e-note to everybody last night. And again they bring up the fact that the Governor is still nutso about replacing all CSRs in court with ER or digital recording systems. The good news is that not all legislators are created equal – thank God! We think there is growing support coming from certain legislators. But we still need everybody’s help.
Please consider writing a letter of support to the various Senate and Assembly leaders listed here. With everyone’s support we can stave off this recent attack!
