(Part 15) 3 Things You Absolutely Must Do To Get a Raise
Don't Be Afraid Of The Word No
Even if after all that you've gone through to get your firm's manager to say yes to your raise request, they can still say no. But keep the faith! Put it all into perspective. Making the request does not guarantee you of getting the raise. Only not bothering to ask guarantees that. So many of us are afraid to hear that little word - no - that we hinder our forward motion. Do not allow the potential for a no stop you. You just might get that yes and then you'll wonder why you even second guessed yourself.
What To Do After A No
Have perspective. So you got told no, so what? What's the worst case scenario when someone says no to you? Most likely the worst part is just the feeling of discomfort. It's not fun to be sure, but should you whine and moan and let it ruin your whole day? No way!
Typically, making the ask - putting yourself out there on the limb and asking for that raise - even risking the dreaded no - is worth the discomfort you might feel if things don't go your way. The potential for reward far outweighs the risk. And once you develop a thicker skin for hearing the word no, imagine what you could do with that power?
If You Were Not Afraid To Fail, What Would You Do?
Just imagine that you no longer fear rejection. Of any kind. What potential things could you accomplish?
- Could you ask for a raise? Yes!
- Could you ask for a promotion? Yes!
- Could you start a business? Yes!
- Could you succeed more and stagnate less? Yes!
