Profits vs. People

Recently I got this interesting questions posed to me by a reporter:

Hi there! I'm an independent freelance reporter in Washington, DC. I'm a realtimer, and a very good one. I had a question about something on your website. You state you have an ironclad guarantee that you will beat any other reporting agency's offer, but you also indicate to reporters that you pay above industry-standard compensation. I would love to know how this is possible! Thanks!
Mary Ann Payonk, CRR, RDR, Washington, DC, www.maryannrdr.com

I was happy to respond to Mary in this way:

If someone comes from a perspective that Profit is King, then reconciling those two issues is incongruent. I don't. Many times I will sacrifice short-run profits to reap long term business and/or to make sure the reporter is paid what she wants. So I guess in my world, People are King. I believe I've been blessed with this business by God and it's my job to steward it the best way I know how which is with generosity and kindness.

Thanks for the inquiry. Great question!
